cowboy down's story
I had a really good buddy who was a saddle bronc rider and a rodeo clown in the PRCA. His name was Dylan Woods
He came to just about every Faster Horses show that he could. I’m not exaggerating when I say this guy came to over 250 shows.
He was our unofficial roadie and hype man, he’d help us load in and out, would get people dancing during the show and would try to get them over to the merch table and to follow us on social media.
He was our BIGGEST super fan, and a dear friend.
Dylan got kicked in the head by a bull, and he survived, but it caused a chemical imbalance in his brain that gave him the unnatural urge to commit suicide.
Something that was entirely not in his nature.
He struggled with it for years, and last year after attending one of our concerts he went home and made a mistake he will never be able to take back.
He danced with my grandmother the same night, and also brought a first date to the show.
We now have a song called "Cowboy Down" that we dedicate to Dylan, we play the song at every show.
I always tell that story before we play it.
I had a veteran come up to the merch table after we performed at a benefit concert we put on for the flood victims of Clay County Iowa. He told me that on that morning he had made his mind up that he was going to kill himself that night, he had by chance found out that we were performing a benefit concert there in town, and he decided to attend.
After I told the story above, and we played "Cowboy Down", he made a point to inform me that the song had moved him so deeply that he changed his mind, and it saved his life. He was going to stay.
After all of this, I’ve decided that it will be my life’s work and mission, and that I am obligated by God and the laws of morality to get “Cowboy Down”out into the world in the biggest way possible.
When else have you heard of a song so powerful, that it could sway the hearts and minds of folks who are in the darkest place imaginable to the point where it saves them from themselves, and it changes their life’s course?
